Can you imagine a community without leaders?

No teachers. No business owners. No one seated at the judge’s bench.

There is no question that leaders are the backbone of a healthy community. But great leaders are not born into their positions—they are grown and cultivated by the people they will come to serve.

Community Youth Development is dedicated to shaping our youth into leaders of the future. We believe that young people in Sarasota County have a powerful voice and can begin making a lasting impact on our community today. Through CYD events, activities, and programs, youth have the opportunity to cultivate the skills necessary to lead with confidence.

If we don’t invest in our youth today, we may indeed find ourselves in a community without leaders tomorrow.

To me, a great leader is someone who inspires others to take action for the good of a common body without imposing their own agenda. They are trustworthy, open to feedback / criticism and extremely talented at pairing this right people with the best suited tasks for their skill sets.

The best leader does not look like a leader when others are making things happen – they look supportive, certain, and empowering for others to achieve. They can articulate great vision yet the vision isn't just theirs – it is shared by the community they are leading. Thet create an environment and a world view where leadership thrives.
